Scar Release
Scar Release Work
Whether you have had a major operation (e.g. hysterectomy, hernia repair, Caesarean birth, knee or hip surgery) or a minor operation to remove, for example, a mole, lipoma or sebaceous cyst, you will have a scar. You may also have scarring after an injury or accident.
Many scars heal well with no help. However, scars can heal badly, look ‘lumpy’, and/or be raised, red and sore.
Whatever the apparent healing, adhesions from the scars often have a ‘domino’ effect, pulling the fascia (connective tissue) around the area. As the fascia covers every cell, every organ, every structure in the body, the resultant contraction can have serious long term effects. For example, a Caesarean scar can lead, many years down the line, to back ache or hip/knee pain.
Scars can be worked on to improve their look and promote their healing. Once the stitches or clips have been removed and the scar allowed to ‘settle’, it is safe to work on them.
The surrounding area is also released, designed to free up the adhesions and linked contracted fascia, creating space in the body where there should be space, improving mobility and circulation.
Depending on the source of injury or the type of operation, scar release can take one 1-hour session or may need two or more 1 ½ hour sessions. Please contact the Clinic to discuss your scar and what you will need.
Case Study 1
Anna had been in a car accident abroad and she fractured her left collarbone. The hospital inserted a metal plate, which was very visible and uncomfortable. Also, the scar healed badly and was painful so, back in England, Anna had the plate removed. Once the stitches were out she came to the clinic for scar release work.
I started to work on the scar once the scar had healed and the dressing removed. The scar was sore and felt raw, and the skin edges were not fully closed, giving it an unsightly appearance. Anna also had pain from a neck whiplash injury, back pain and a left-hand twist in her body where the impact had caused her to twist against the seatbelt which ran from left shoulder to right hip. She had limited head rotation to the left and restricted movement of the left arm (she could not raise arm above her head).
The scar release process was slower than normal because of the associated physical trauma. The scar was ‘lumpy’ and disfiguring. This was cleared with three x 1½ hour treatments but we continued to work simply to get the best result possible as well as to fully clear the neck whiplash and back pain and to restore mobility to her left arm.
Anna now has normal mobility, a scar that is well healed, and no back or neck pain
