February 10, 2023 @ 10:00 am – February 11, 2023 @ 5:30 pm
Timings: Day 1, 10.00 – 18.00; day 2, 09.30 – 17.30.
Specialist training for qualified Sharon Wheeler’s ScarWork therapists only.
Please note – if required by government or common-sense guidelines, we will instigate precautions as needed to deal with any current virus situations. These may include masks, extra sanitising, and changes in how we run the class to reduce the number of people you are in personal contact with. If you do not wish to wear a mask, or have any other concerns, please let the tutor know in advance and we will be happy to work with you to help you join the class. Thank you for your cooperation.
Attendees must have a working knowledge of, and been practising the first nine ScarWork techniques. If you have been qualified as a manual therapist for less than five years, then you should have one year’s experience as a ScarWork therapist behind you before attending this course. This is because some of the techniques are Structural Integration techniques and students need to be able to handle the body intelligently.
2-day intensive covering:
- Revision of Caesareans, Diep Flaps and Tummy Tucks
- The use of mesh in surgery. Working with women after mesh removal.
- Revision of particularly useful ScarWork techniques within the context of pelvic scarring
- Clearing the anterior iliac crests/ ASIS
- Revision of epidural treatment. How to find the epidural site
- Repositioning the mons pubis
- Vaginal ‘column’ lift
- Working with abdominal torque
- Integration of the pelvic tissues
- Indirect fascial release to free deep adhesions.
- Techniques covered on day 2 can be used anywhere on the body – they are tools you can use with confidence to restructure the tissue once you have worked on the scar, and create better integration, posture, ROM and functionality.
Not only do we work on pelvic scars but explore how those scars affect the rest of the body, and work with abdominal congestion and upper thoracic tension to free up the front body which is often contracted due to the scarring. This often assists emotional expression and is a huge relief to the client.
The course combines theory and practical, with opportunity for hands-on practice with members of the public in well-supervised sessions, and is designed to give you the knowledge and confidence to help ‘put women together again’ after injury and surgery. A pre-learning pack will be part of the course, with some reading and videos to view.
“As a bodyworker who also has pelvic scarring myself, I was very keen to attend the specialist Pelvic and Abdominal scarring course with Jan Trewartha. From both a practitioner’s point of view and the view of a body with extensive pelvic scars, I was not disappointed.
Learning how to apply these new specialist techniques through demonstrations, pair work and then on clients, has reinforced my prior learning and given me the confidence to try exciting and inspiring skills that I can only describe as techniques that astonish when observed.
On the receiving end, I witnessed first-hand how important this work is and the results that follow. I have seen marked improvements in the appearance of the scars, abdominal congestion, hip mobility, lower back niggles and internal organ function.
Jan’s passion for what she does and her generosity with her knowledge resulted in me coming away from the course with a deeper understanding of scars and their effect on our bodies. Her course has consolidated my existing knowledge, motivating me and firing me up to take my ScarWork practice to another level.“
