Pelvic and Abdominal ScarWork Training for Therapists
Self-development and self-awareness facilitated.
Why Pelvic & Abdominal ScarWork?
Pelvic and abdominal scars, like any scars, can affect mobility, posture, organ function, and emotional wellbeing. Women in particular have a lot of pelvic and abdominal surgery and the potential side effects such as incontinence, pain, hip problems, lower back pain and change of gait are often overlooked in their recovery. This course offers in-depth training for therapists who want to support clients recovering from surgery or trauma in this area. You’ll learn sensitive, effective ScarWork techniques that promote healing while respecting physical and emotional boundaries.
Who This Course Is For & Entry Requirements
This course is ideal for anyone who has qualified in Sharon Wheeler’s ScarWork.
You will need
- A working understanding of and be very comfortable with using the first nine ScarWork techniques.
- If you have been qualified as a manual therapist for less than 5 years, then you should have a minimum of one year's clinical experience as a ScarWork therapist behind you before attending this course; this should include working regularly with scars and feeling comfortable that you are able to use ScarWork with a fair amount of confidence and understand how the body responds to it.
This is because some of the techniques are designed to deeply integrate the body, allowing distortion, torsion, and tissue displacement to be addressed; therefore, students need to be able to handle the body intelligently and with awareness. Certain modalities with longer initial training may be exempt from this requirement.
What You’ll Learn
This training takes your work to a different level and covers:
- The impact of pelvic/abdominal scarring on fascia, organs, and movement
- Understanding the emotional landscape of pelvic scarring
- Boundaried, ethical, and consent-based approaches
- Revision of relevant ScarWork techniques specifically for these surgeries.
- Introduction of specialist techniques passed on by Sharon Wheeler for this training.
- Integrating scar release into broader client care
You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of the body’s healing process and the confidence to support clients with compassion and skill.
